Tower on West 22nd Street

A design for a seventeen story, high-end residential tower for JDS Development Group, located above an existing historic building that, due to its zoning regulations, produces protected panoramic views of the adjacent Hudson River for each residential unit.  The project fuses custom concrete relief cladding with a more conventional glass curtain wall façade system to produce a detailed and visually distinct high-resolution façade visible from the adjacent West Side Highway as well as the Hudson River and distant shores of New Jersey. Each unit features private Juliet balconies integrated with geometrically exaggerated and contoured window mullions. The form, materials, and high-resolution language of the building offer a complementary, but more figural visual contrapposto to the heavily gridded design of the adjacent residential building at 551 West 21st Street recently designed by Foster + Partners.
